General
How do I find out what is going on with iBroadcast and follow the development of the service?
Do you have a system status page?
Yes, we have one at
https://status.ibroadcast.com which shows planned and unplanned outages if and when they occur and is updated every 5 minutes.
How much does your Premium Service cost and what does it offer?
You can read all about our
premium service here.
How do you make money?
We do not host ads, we do not sell your information, and we do not sell music. iBroadcast relies 100% on the support of its users via the Premium Service to stay operational. Even if you do not use the premium service features, please consider upgrading to premium to help support us! You can read all about our
premium service here.
Will iBroadcast always be free?
The core service, will always be free!
Can you add more "value" to the Premium Service?
We do not believe in crippling the free service as a way to entice users into paying for premium service. We are well aware that this is the industry "way" but we do not necessarily agree with it. Our hope is that our users will find the service valuable enough, even if they do not use premium features, that they will want to support us if they have the financial means to. We do not want to exclude those that do not. This service is for everyone!
Do you offer a lifetime subscription option?
We are unable to because with each user, we incur costs related to streaming, storage, customer support, etc. For services that do offer this type of subscription (for example Plex) they are usually offering you a lifetime license to their software, the ongoing expenses are still your burden (you have to provide a computer, internet connection, etc). We hope you understand why this subscription model does not make sense for us.
How can I verify my account?
If you are not receiving the verification email from us, then email us at
support@ibroadcast.com from the email address you registered with us (so we know it is in your control) requesting verification and we will manually verify your account.
How do I delete my account and remove my music?
Just contact us from the "Feedback" section of our mobile apps or website, or by emailing us at
support@ibroadcast.com and ask to have your email address and music deleted, and we will. You are always welcome to sign up again if you change your mind, but you will need to upload your music again.
Who are you guys/gals?
We are a Seattle based company made up of people who love music just as much (if not more) as you, all hailing from the great Puget Sound area. And no, we don't mind the weather here (hardly) at all.
I still have questions or I am having difficulties not covered here, where can I get additional help?
You can always contact us in the Feedback section of our apps and website, or by emailing us at
support@ibroadcast.com. We are always here to help and will get back to you quickly!
Uploading Music
Where is all the music and how do I find music to play?
iBroadcast is a place where you can store all of your music then organize it, explore it, and enjoy listening to it. We are not a subscription streaming service (like Spotify or Pandora). That means in order to use our service you must first upload your music to your iBroadcast library. Once you have uploaded your music and it is stored with iBroadcast it will be kept safe and made available to you wherever you are. Your purchased music will always be available for you to listen to on your own terms. You don't have to worry about subscription streaming services losing their licensing deals, not being able to find your favorite version of a song, or artists pulling their music from a service. Once it is here, it stays.
How do I get my music into iBroadcast?
Once you have signed up for your free account you can log in at
media.ibroadcast.com and click the side menu from website then select "Add Music" to see available upload options. We have lots of ways of getting your music uploaded to your iBroadcast library, you can use your web browser or our MediaSync Lite app for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. For our more advanced users we also have starter scripts written in several other languages available at
project.ibroadcast.com.
What kind of audio files can I upload and listen to?
We support most audio formats (including .mp3, .aac, .mka, .ogg, .flac, and .pcm) and many others. If there is a specific audio format that you are running into problems with, you can always contact us through the Feedback section of our apps and website, or by emailing us at
support@ibroadcast.com. We have an
indepth guide available if you would like to know more about what happens after you upload a file.
How do I get the music from my iBroadcast library onto my phone or tablet?
Once you upload your music into your iBroadcast library, you then download our free mobile apps on the
Google Play Store or the
App Store and your music will be available wherever you are. Our mobile apps have support for offline playback so you don't need to have a persistent internet connection.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes. Individual file sizes must be smaller than 1.5 GB.
How do I get my CD collection into my iBroadcast library?
Log into our website at
media.ibroadcast.com and download MediaSync Lite to your Windows or Mac computer (on the side menu, click "Add Music"). Once you have it downloaded, simply log in and insert an audio CD. MediaSync Lite will do the rest, the audio files from your CD will be uploaded (lossless, flac format) to your iBroadcast library.
I have purchased music from iTunes, Amazon, or other third party store, how do I get those files onto my iBroadcast library?
Once you have your music downloaded to your computer from those stores, simply sign up for your free account with iBroadcast. You can then log in at
media.ibroadcast.com, click the side menu then select "Add Music" to view upload options. We have lots of easy ways to get music uploaded into your iBroadcast library and some advanced options as well at
project.ibroadcast.com.
How do I re-upload a song?
MediaSync Lite skips files that have already been uploaded to your library. That way you can run it over and over without getting duplicate files uploaded into your library. This functionality, however, prevents you from being able to "re-upload" a song which has already been uploaded and usually there is no reason to upload byte-for-byte the same file. But if you want to do that, when you launch MediaSync Lite there is an option to "Skip files already uploaded into my library" uncheck that and you can re-upload.
What embedded ID3 tags does your system read?
We read most of them and fill in the blanks when they are missing. This can sometimes lead to unexpected results. If you want the most accurate upload, make sure to define these embedded ID3 tags in your song files (they are not case sensitive):
- Title (song title)
- Artist (song artist)
- Album or Album Title (album name)
- Track Number (track position on album)
- Album Artist or Band (album artist name)
- Genre (i.e. rock, jazz)
- Year (four digit)
- Part Of Set or Disc Number (i.e. 1/1, 1/3)
- Picture or Artwork (name is not important here, we scan the file for valid images, having it embedded improves accuracy)
Please note that duplicate tags are not supported and can lead to unexpected results. If a track has multiple artists or multiple genres, you can split them with a semicolon (;).
How does the system determine duplicates?
The system identifies three types of duplicates:
- Byte-for-byte the same file (md5 match)
- If the track number, title, artist and album name of a song all match (tag match). A duplicate will get flagged and removed from your library.
- If the file path matches a previously uploaded file (path match). A duplicate will get flagged and removed from your library. Read more below.
What is the purpose of the path match duplicate check?
To allow you to edit track metadata on your computer and re-upload modified files, the system matches the file path against other tracks in your library. If it finds a match, the old files get flagged as duplicate and removed.
If you are uploading many files from the same folder, you may run into issues where different files have the same file name. This can cause the system to see them as the same file and it will incorrectly flag them as duplicates.
Should you run into issues with files getting incorrectly flagged as duplicate, you can turn off this path match duplicate check by going to the
Web Player > Settings > Library Options and turning on "Disable File Path Duplicate Check
".
How long does it take for duplicates to be removed?
The system automatically checks for duplicates about 10 minutes after the most recent file has finished uploading. If you upload more tracks before duplicates are checked, that timer will be reset and it will be another 10 minutes before duplicates are removed.
Editing Your Library
Some of my music is mislabeled or didn't import how I expected it to, is there anything I can do to fix it?
We prioritize your music file's embedded id3 tags and if no embedded tags are present or if some of the fields are missing (we require a title, artist and album tag at the minimum) then we do our best by parsing missing information from the filename. If an album is unexpectedly split, make sure that each track has an "album" and "albumartist" id3 tag that match and that each track has a unique "tracknumber" tag. You can also fix this after it has been uploaded. To edit from the website, just right click an album or track and choose "Edit Album" or "Edit Track". Click "Edit Mode" to combine and split albums (click the "+ Album" to create a new, empty album, there is also a "Help" button). On mobile, long press for edit options.
How do I edit individual tracks, albums, artwork, etc?
You can edit albums and tracks by right clicking on the website, or long pressing on mobile and choosing "Edit Track" or "Edit Album". On the website you can also click "Edit Mode" to split or combine albums and change the order of tracks in albums. When you enter "Edit Mode" on the website there is also a "Help" button (upper right corner) with more detailed information.
How do I delete a track or album?
Just click and drag the track or album you wish to delete onto the Trash icon. Or tap and hold on the mobile apps and chose "Trash" from the context menu. Tracks will remain in the "Trash" until you "empty it". Once you empty the trash, tracks are removed from your library. You can restore them however, by visiting the "Track Dashboard" on the website.
Playing Music
What bitrate do you stream music?
The core, free service streams music at 128kbps. The premium service allows you to choose transcoded bitrates up to 320kbps or non-transcoded, original format uploaded by you. This allows you to stream in lossless if you have, for example, uploaded your library in flac format. Keep in mind that when playing in original format, since we do not do any transcoding at all, your files may not play on all devices. If you run into issues, try a transcoded bitrate such as 320kbps to see if that resolves the problem. We have an
indepth guide available if you would like to know more.
How do I shuffle my library?
On mobile, long press on the "Play Queue" tab (center bottom) for several "Random Play" options (your play queue must be empty). On the website, click the "..." menu next to the "My Library" title.
Note: The "shuffle 500" feature will not include downvoted tracks or tracks which are in an album or by an artist rated 2 stars or less. It will also not suggest a song for random
play again until all songs in your library have been suggested.
My music plays too loud or too soft. What is replay gain?
Replay gain is a technique used to normalize the perceived loudness of audio. This avoids the common problem of having to manually adjust volume levels between tracks when playing audio files from albums that have been mastered at different loudness levels. With this on (on the mobile apps under the side menu > playback options > replay gain, or on the website in settings menu) the volume is adjusted so each song has the same apparent volume. If your songs seem to play at different volumes, try turning replay gain on.
If you are not happy with the replay gain value for a track or album, you can edit the value on the website by right-clicking and choosing the edit option.
Playlists
Is there a limit to the number of playlists I can have or the number of tracks in a playlist?
There is no limit! Keep in mind however, on some older devices you may run into performances issues with very large playlists. But generally, most users should not run into this issue.
How do I edit or delete a playlist?
Click the Playlist Edit icon to edit the name of the playlist or to delete the playlist all-together. Note: Deleting a playlist does not move the tracks that the playlist contains to the trash can.
Can I import playlists into iBroadcast and What format should my playlists be uploaded in?
You can upload playlists via the website when you click the "..." menu next to the "Playlists" title and then, "Upload Playlist File". We support two formats currently, m3u and plain text. For m3u we follow
this specification, please note that song title and artist name positions can be reversed. For text format you should have one song per line and in one of the following 3 formats (note: do not include the square brackets):
[count]. [track title] by [artist name]
[track title] by [artist name]
[track title]
After your playlist is uploaded the system will attempt to match the playlist songs to your library. You will have the opportunity to review the matches and correct any wrong matches before your playlist is imported.

Miscellaneous
What are Achievements?
Achievements are a way to explore the functionality of iBroadcast, some of which is not terribly obvious. It's a slightly more entertaining way to learn the ins and outs of iBroadcast than reading a manual.
Can you explain how iBroadcast tagging works?
You can use tags to further organize your iBroadcast library, perform more powerful searches or narrow down your search, and also archive portions of your library (note: this is not to be confused with the ID3 embedded tags in music files as mentioned above). This system is quite flexible and allows you do use it in many different ways.
General
- You can tag any track, artist, album, etc with multiple tags
- By default tags are treated with an "OR" operator when selecting or searching multiple tags
- Use the "AND" operator to only show tracks, albums, etc which have all the tags selected
Mobile App Specifics
- Long press on a track, album or artist to tag and manage the tags for that item
- Tap the "Search" icon at the bottom then type tag name(s) and operators into the search bar
- Operators must be capitalized (i.e. Favorites AND Festival Hits AND Bootleg AND Demos)
- Search for multiple tags using an operator (AND or OR) or a comma (i.e. Favorites, Festival Hits, Bootleg, Demos)
- You can also use the "OR" operator as well (i.e. Favorites OR Festival Hits OR Bootleg OR Demos)
- Use the "AND" operator to only show items tagged with all matching tags (i.e. Favorites AND Festival Hits)
- Mix use of the "OR" and "AND" operator is not currently supported (i.e. Favorites AND Festival Hits OR Bootleg)
- You can invert the search with the "INVERT" operator at the beginning of a search (i.e. INVERT Favorites AND Festival Hits)
- Tap the "Play" icon in the search field to play the matched tag results
- You can hide tracks from your library (for example: tracks which you do not often listen to) by long pressing a tag and then tapping "Archive". This will also keep these tracks from downloading to your mobile device (speeding up app performance for very large libraries).
- Unhide by long-pressing the hidden tag and choosing, "Unarchive"
Website Specifics
- Clicking a tag activates it and you will only see songs with the tag (or tags)
- Create tags by clicking the "+" next to the "Tags" title and then drag it into a track, album, artist, playlist or the search field to tag those tracks.
- Delete a tag by dragging it to the trash or right clicking on a tag and choosing "Delete" (this does not delete any songs, just removes the tag).
- Rename a tag by right clicking on a tag and choose "Rename"
- You can click multiple tags at once to activate them (defaults to "OR" operator)
- Invert a tag selection by clicking a tag (or tags) and then click "Invert"
- Untag a track by clicking a tag, then click "Untag" and drag that tag onto a track, album, etc.
- Click "Play" to play the selected tag results or right click on a tag and choose "Play"
- You can hide tracks from your library (for example: tracks which you do not often listen to) by activating a tag and then clicking "Hide". This will also keep these tracks from downloading to your mobile device (speeding up app performance for very large libraries).
- Unhide by clicking the hidden tag and choosing, "Unhide"
You have two rating systems: a 5 star rating system AND a thumbs up/down system, what gives?
Which system to use is 100% up to you! You can use both, a mix of the two, or neither of them. By default, the thumbs up/down ratings are enabled for tracks, and the star system for albums and artists, but you can change this to use either rating system, or completely hide the rating system altogether from the UI.
I have an album that comes in a 2-disc set, can I combine them?
Log into the website, click the "gear icon", scroll down to "Library Settings" and then "Combine Multi-Disc Album Sets". You can toggle this setting on and off at any time
and the change will be reflected across all the devices you use to access your library from including the Android and iOS mobile apps.
In order for "Combine Multi-Disc Sets" to work properly you must follow these guidelines:
- The names of the albums should match, but can have a disc or vol number (i.e. "Best of My Favorite Artist Disc 1", "Best of My Favorite Artist Disc 2")
- The album artist must match
- The release year of each disc must match
- The album disc number should be set consecutively
These settings can be configured on the website, by right-clicking on any album and then choosing "Edit Album".
Another straight forward option is to simply combine the albums permanently. You can do this by enabling "Edit Mode" on the website, and then dragging and dropping albums together.
